A Must-See for Arkansas Tourists: Intrique Theater

November 4th, 2012

If you are visiting Eureka Springs, you probably know that our city is renowned for being haunted! This may be part of your attraction to the city – and if so, we have a great Eureka Springs attraction for you: Intrigue Theater, and it’s just a short 2 minute walk from our inn.

Built around the age of Intrigue during the Victorian era, the performance is broken into two acts: the first is built around the illusionist and magician performances of Sean-Paul. The second act stars Juliana Fay, a medium and clairvoyant.

One morning at breakfast a couple of weeks ago we had three couples debating on just how Sean had accomplished some of his illusions. Lots of different theories and a lively conversation ensued, but, no one really knew . . . . maybe you can figure it out?

Intrigue Theater Act 1:

Illusionist Sean-Paul of Intrigue Theater

If you enjoyed the movie “The Illusionist” with Edward Norton, you might enjoy experiencing a similar performance live. Nationally-acclaimed Illusionist, Sean-Paul, engages the audience with a series of seemingly inexplicable mysteries.

Typical shows include magic demonstrations, “feats of astonishing mental capabilities,” and an especially impressive hypnosis demonstration with an audience member. According to the theater’s website, the individual will “regress back to a previous life and return with physical proof!”

Some new material was added to the show in 2012, including a demonstration of Voodoo that will bring even skeptics to the edge of their seats and a performance called “Romancing the Pendulum.”

Intrigue Theater Act II:

Explore the paranormal elements of spiritualism in a seance in the same manner as observed and celebrated in the 19th century.
With any luck, you will witness Juliana contact a spirit! There is new material in this section of the show as well. Called “The Spirits of Salem Massachusetts,” It turns out that some relics retrieved from Salem, MA on a recent trip may be imbibed with a spirit!

Intrigue Theater Tickets

Tickets are $24.95 each; if you order online, you pay the flat rate for premium seating. You can also order a family pack, with includes two adult and three children’s admissions for $70.

Crystal Bridges Museum Trail Tours

October 24th, 2012

The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art hosts Drop-in Trail Tours so museum guests can experience and learn about the flora and fauna of the grounds, as well as architecture and outdoor sculpture. Trail Tours are seasonal and will run through December 16, 2012, weather permitting. The Tours accommodate up to 20 guests on a first come, first serve basis.

Trail surfaces and terrain will vary and strollers, bicycles and wheelchairs are not recommended. Make sure to wear comfortable  hiking footwear. Tours are between 60 and 90 minutes long, depending on the trail and season. There are two different tours available:

Tulip Tree Trail Tour. Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.  The Tour meets at the Museum’s South Lobby.

Rockledge Trail Tour. Saturdays at 3 p.m. and Sundays at 11:30 a.m. The Tour meets outside at Walker Landing.

Located at 600 Museum Way in Bentonville, the museum is about a one hour drive from  our Eureka Springs Inn. Reviews on Trip Advisor indicate that the trials are part of the special experience at Crystal Bridges Museum. One visitor from August 2012 says “Don’t miss the outdoor trails, which have pieces of art on them as well!” While another visitor from last month says “The outside (gardens, architecture of the museum, trails) is an integral part of the experience.”

In the early part of summer Jan and I spent one afternoon just walking the trails and enjoying the summer flowers, trees and shrubs. Just last week we had a guest return who raved about walking the trails. The guided tours should add a great depth to the experience.

Eagle Watching

An Eagle nest near Beaver Lake in Eureka Springs.

The Eagle Watch special event will take place October 19-21, although you can observe wintering bald eagles over the lake through January or February. Expert guides help visitors spot eagles and happily share their knowledge of the bald eagle’s lifestyle and habitat. The tour takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and are daily (closed Thursday) at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults; $8.50 for children under 12.

Arkansas Fall Foliage on the Belle of the Ozarks

The same boat taking guests out for the Eagle watching also holds cruises throughout the week. This is a wonderful time to observe Arkansas fall foliage. Take a cruise on the Belle of the Ozarks, a large, open-platform style boat. The Belle of the Ozarks has navigated the lake for 18 years and the staff will keep you entertained talking about the local history. Just in case, take a sweater for the cool fall weather and sit on the open air deck enjoying the scenery and fall colors. There is a small snack bar on board with chips and soft drinks, etc. If you enjoy a quiet, slow ride on a lake and the weather is good, you should consider this on your next trip to Eureka Springs!
