Whether you’re a competitor in the events or simply an eager spectator, the 2015 Eureka Springs XTERRA Festival promises an exciting time for all!
XTERRA began in 1996 on the Hawaiian island of Maui as the Aquaterra; a series of cross triathlon races including swimming, mountain biking, and trail running.
Eureka Springs XTERRA Festival includes three trail runs on Saturday, July 25th – a 6k, 12k, and 24k – and two triathlon events on Sunday, July 26th – the XTERRA Eureka Springs and the XTERRA Eureka Springs Sport.
The 6k will be run around historic Lake Leatherwood on mostly single track trails comprised of a mix of smooth hard pack to technical rocky sections with several creek crossings that can vary from dry to as much as 18 inches of water. The 12k course runs over several trails also around Lake Leatherwood and including several steep climbs and descents, while the 24k is comprised of 2 laps of the 12k course.
The XTERRA Eureka Springs course – .5 mile swim, 14.5 mile bike, 5.1 mile run in and around the Lake Leatherwood and its trails – is one of the most challenging races on the XTERRA America Tour and may be raced by the individual or with relay teams of two to three people.
XTERRA Eureka Springs Sport is a new addition to the Eureka Springs XTERRA Festival and consists of a.5 mile swim, 7.25 miles of biking, and a 3.6 mile run, also in and around the Lake Leatherwood and its trails. This event is intended for newcomers looking to experience XTERRA for the first time or just on a less demanding course. Relay teams are not allowed in the XTERRA Eureka Springs Sport race, nor will XTERRA America Tour Series points be awarded.
