The nationally acclaimed summer music festival’s 67th season brings Bizet’s “Carmen,” Floyd’s “Susannah,” and Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” to life in the Ozarks. June 23rd through July 21st, 2017.

Opera In The Ozarks began in 1950 as a humble, summer music camp – but a music camp with big ideas. Instead of your run-of-the-mill music camp, this one focused on opera or music drama using the highest professional standards. Over the years, those ideas were nurtured and began to flourish. In 1993 the sole focus became opera. Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point was born.

In many programs like Opera In The Ozarks, students often only fill out the lesser roles of a production. Lead vocal roles are filled by professionals. At Opera In The Ozarks, the motto is “the students are the stars.” All roles, every season, are performed by students – not that you’d know it!

When you attend Opera In The Ozarks, you’re not just seeing a professional-grade opera, you’re seeing the future of the art.

Opera In The Ozarks At Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony (IPFAC) offers an intensive, 8-week, summer training and program each year. The program selects some of the best university students and graduates in the country from national auditions. The students come to prepare for professional careers as well as the opportunity to perform on stage in a professional scale opera.

Another reason to attend the annual performances is the venue. “Inspiration Point” may sound more like a good place to watch submarine races than an opera but that’s hardly the case.

Inspiration Point overlooks the White River valley from the towering peak of Rock Candy Mountain. The grounds, 7 miles west of Eureka Springs on Route 62, include a European-style castle built in the 1920’s. Inspiration Point is worth a visit even when Opera in the Ozarks isn’t occurring!
