The silver anniversary of Eureka Springs Kite Festival – Kite Festival 2015 – hits this year on March 28th and will be held once again at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
The 25th annual Eureka Springs Kite Festival, sponsored by KaleidoKites of Eureka Springs and hosted by Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is bound to be bigger and better than ever with special, silver anniversary events and displays to make this yearly festival even more fantastic than it usually is.
This free, family event invites all who attend to bring their own kite, buy one at the festival, or just lie back on the grass and enjoy the spectacle of the many, multicolored, many-shaped kites of all sizes dancing aloft in the bright, clear, early-spring air.
You’ll see box kites, fighting kites, experimental kites, professional kites, kites shaped like animals, kites shaped like things, kites that are stunning works of art worth thousands of dollars and, if you like, even a kite hand-made by you!
That’s right – you can learn to build and fly your very own kite! Kite experts will be on hand at Eureka Springs Kite Festival 2015 to not only show you how to make your own kites but also various flying techniques and maybe even give you a little history. For example, did you know that it is believed that kites were originally flown in China – and more than two thousand years ago?
Eureka Springs Kite Festival 2015 will also feature vendors of kites and refreshments, along with kite-related contests and activities. Admission to the Eureka Springs Kite Festival is free, while regular admission prices apply if you also wish to tour Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge – an activity that is highly recommended!
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge hosts the Eureka Springs Kite Festival each year – it is one of their most popular events. A portion of the proceeds collected at the Eureka Springs Kite Festival go towards Turpentine Creek’s animal rescue efforts and the ongoing care of the over 135 tigers, lions, cougars, and other wonderful animals that make Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge their life-long home.
