May is approaching and with it Eureka Springs 27th annual May Festival of the Arts – a month long celebration of our wonderful arts community!
Also known as “MayFest” among the locals and regular attendees, the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts is not just a celebration but a way of sharing the arts with the community and visitors through exhibitions, events, symposiums, and sales throughout Eureka Springs and the entire month of May.
Here are just a few highlights from this year’s schedule:
ArtRageous Parade
May 3rd, 6-6:30pm
The ArtRageous Parade is the traditional kick-off of the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts. Colorful, quirky, and energetic dancers, musicians, jugglers, and floats stream through downtown Eureka Springs.
Big Pot USA
10am to 4pm daily throughout May at Paradise Pottery & Gallery
Jim Wallace is making the world’s largest pot and the equipment to turn and fire the pot. Stop by to watch the progress.
24th Annual White Street Studio Walk
May 16th – 4pm – 10pm
Historic White Street is the working address of several local artists. Accept their invitation for you to enter their homes and studios to view their latest works. More than forty guest artists will display weaving, watercolors, jewelry, oils, pottery, stained glass and much more. Turquoise flags will identify participating locations. This is a fun event for everyone and only two blocks from our inn.
Tim Cotterill – The Frogman Returns
May 2nd at 5:30pm, May 3rd at 6:30pm, May 4th at Noon
Internationally-known sculptor Tim Cotterill returns to the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts for the opening weekend of the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts. Tim Cotterill is a popular arts personality known for his exceptional bronze sculptures, especially his trademark series of playful and fanciful frogs.
And So Much More
The entire month of May is needed to encompass the Eureka Springs May Festival of the Arts, so the above is obviously just a minor sampling of the attractions. Beyond visual arts there is also A Taste of Art involving several restaurants around town and musical events, including free concerts in Basin Park.
