The 66th season of Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point is mere weeks away, running from June 17th through July 15th 2016, and continuing the tradition of acclaimed performances that has kept opera not just alive in the Ozarks but alive and kicking!
Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point began as a summer music camp in 1950, evolving into not just one of the top summer music attractions in the Ozarks but an important stepping stone for university students and graduates interested in pursuing a career in opera.
Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony (IPFAC), often referred to as “The Point,” is an intensive eight-week summer training and performance program for young singers, selected from competitive national auditions. One of the biggest perks of attending The Point is the opportunity to perform in the professional scale operas put on each year.
Alumni of the popular, annual summer opera festival and intensive training program who have gone on to prominent performing careers include such luminaries as Mark Delavan, Stephen Dickson, Tom Fox, Carroll Freeman, Beverly Hoch, Hei-Kyung Hong, and Gwendolyn Jones, to name just a few.
The grounds of Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point are as iconic as the performances -and performers! – produced there. Located seven miles northwest of Eureka Springs, Inspiration Point overlooks the White River valley from its 600 foot vantage point on top of Rock Candy Mountain.
Inspiration Point’s main edifice is a majestic castle, patterned after those of the Rhine River valley. Built in the late 1920’s by German-born architectural engineer, Charles Mowers, it was gifted to Phillips University in 1938. A visit to Inspiration Point to take in the castle and incredible view is a must for all those passing through Eureka Springs, performances or not!
