There will be several events leading up to grand parade and celebrations. Saturday, January 19th is the Taste of N’Awlins, beginning at 2 p.m. at Keel’s Creek Winery – a quick 10 minute drive out of town from our Eureka Springs bed and breakfast. Make believe you’re at Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter and enjoy cafe au lait and Beignets. Keel’s Creek Winery also has an art gallery located inside its spacious Spanish-style building. Voulez Vous Lounge of Eureka Springs

The venue for the Burlesque show is the Voulez Vous Lounge, at 63A Spring Street, only 1/2 mile from our Eureka Springs bed and breakfast. The Voulez Vous is underground and it has a distinct turn-of-the-century French theme. Enjoy classic cocktails and champagne drinks along with jazz music. They also serve food, including savory and sweet crepes, desserts and sandwiches.

The tickets are $20 per person and this guarantees you a seat for the show, so you don’t have to worry about standing up all night. Purchase tickets online or in Eureka Springs at the Voulez Vous Lounge or at The Art of Romance at 60 Spring Street. If you are interested, we recommend you get your tickets right away as the Burlesque shows often sell out.

Need Eureka Springs Lodging for New Year’s Travel?

While our bed and breakfast is closed for Christmas, we are definitely open for New Years Eve. We still have several rooms available for New year’s Eve proper (it falls on a Monday this year) so give us a call so now to book your stay.

Holiday Cookie Tour

November 20th, 2012

Hosted by the Bed and Breakfast Association of Eureka Springs

We are excited to announce our participation in the 6th annual bed and breakfast holiday cookie tour! As you well may know, bed and breakfasts like ours are renowned for delicious breakfast pastries. You know what’s easier to bake than a pastry? A cookie! Come with your sweet tooth and taste all the delights these fine Eureka Springs lodgings have to offer. Jan will be making Yuletide Cherry Cookies and Caramel filled Chocolate Cookie (nicknamed Milk Dud Cookie).

The Tour takes place on Saturday, December 8th from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The first time we held the tour, we received accolades from Taste of the South Magazine. Here is their take on our recipe for good holiday fun:

Eureka Springs Holiday Getaways

Don’t those ooey-gooey cookies look delicious?

“Take a quaint Victorian Town nestled in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. Add an association of bed-and-breakfast owners who love to decorate their inns for the Christmas season. Mix in a good measure of curiosity from out-of-town guests and local people alike. And garnish with an array of holiday treats and recipes to share.”

Nine Eureka Springs Inns will be participating. Tickets are $20 and include entry into a raffle for a $100 Gift Certificate!

This is a self-guided tour with maps of participating B&Bs included, so you can visit the inns at your leisure. All of the bed and breakfasts are on or close to one of the Eureka Springs trolley routes. Parking is limited so we urge you to let someone else take the wheel and enjoy the sights while you ride the trolley.

Holiday Tour Package

We want to help promote the tour by offering a getaway weekend deal at our Eureka Springs B&B. Come stay with us the weekend of the cookie tour and we will provide you with everything you need to enjoy the tour and Eureka Springs for the weekend. The special includes:

  • 2 nights lodging in a jacuzzi room or suite
  • A three-course gourmet breakfast each morning
  • 2 tickets to the Sweet Treats tour
  • 2 one-day trolley tickets

Room packages start at $299; Suite packages start at $339. We hope to meet you and your sweet tooth real soon!

Chocolate Cookie Fantasy Wish

September 4th, 2011

It’s time for us to start thinking about our ‘Bed and Breakfast Inns of Eureka Springs’ Association annual Christmas Sweet Treats tour. Jan is scouting out all our cook books for special cookie recipes. She is really focusing on Maida Heatter’s ‘Book of Great Chocolate Desserts’. Me being the chocoholic, I’m not disappointed in her choice. Could this be a Julie meets Julia moment? I am wondering what great cookie recipe she will find, because you know how I hate being the one who has to taste all those experimental workings (sly smile now showing). Can’t wait for the taste tests to begin.

For the fifth year now, on Saturday, December 10th, our association will be putting on this event. Here’s what it includes.

  • Nine unique bed and breakfasts included on the tour.
  • Yummy cookies & treats (2 per inn) with recipes to add to your collection.
  • Holiday decorating ideas from each of the beautifully decorated inns.
  • A chance to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
  • Finish your shopping in Eureka Springs’ unique shops and art galleries.
  • Enter our giveaway contest for a chance to win one of three $100 gift certificates good at any of the Sweet Treats Cookie Tour participating inns.

Will post more on the cookie tastings as they happen. Jan promised me a new cookie recipe a week.

Christmas season tours in Eureka Springs

December 3rd, 2010

On Saturday, December 11, 2010 the 4th Annual Sweet Treats Tour is happening. 5 Ojo Inn Bed and Breakfast is one of the participants and we are excited about this years tour. Jan tried a number of different treats and forced me to taste them. It was a tough job tasting all those cookies and treats, but I endured with a smile on my face. For the tour, you can visit 8 different bed and breakfasts sampling their favorite cookie and candy recipes, collect copies of all the recipes, get holiday decorating ideas and enter yourself in a contest for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate!

This Saturday (12/4/2010) from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the 28th Annual Eureka Springs Christmas Tour of Homes is happening. Jan is one of the docents and looks great decked out in her costume.

Fourteen locations are participating in this year’s tour, giving guests a glimpse of a bygone era. All stops on the self-guided tour will be lavishly decorated for the season with Victorian attired docents at each site to relate the history of each home. Each residence offers an opportunity to revisit the grandeur of the graceful Victorian era and its unique, enchanting homes.

Visitors will be treated to choir and band music, carolers, refreshments and merriment. Tour goers will also see elegant ladies adorned in their finery and dapper gentlemen dressed in tails and ties as they stroll through downtown Eureka Springs, the only city in the country where the entire city is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Eureka Springs Halloween Event

October 5th, 2010

We really enjoy Halloween here in Eureka Springs, AR because every year we get from 400 to 500 kids at our bed and breakfast, most of whom are dressed up in costumes. A good share of the parents also join in with their kids by dressing up.

Another fun event is the Mad Hatter’s Ball, a lavish costumed affair and fundraiser for the Eureka Springs School of the Arts (ESSA). The event includes live and silent auctions, music and dancing, a hat contest, and live music by Red Ambition. This ball is in true “Eureka style” – party-goers will dazzle each other with creative hats, while many go further, sporting full costume. Awards will be given for “Best Hat”, & for the “People’s Choice”.

Some of the hats you see at the ball are so unique it makes you shake your head and say, “Wow, who would have thought you could make a hat out of that?”

Hours are 6:30 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $50, including an Italian pasta buffet, and available by calling ESSA at 479-253-5384. ESSA is a non-profit school providing adults and youth classes in arts and crafts throughout the year for emerging and professional artists. Award-winning, noted artists and craftspeople teach classes at the school’s campus.

So, I end with what the King of Hearts says in Alice in Wonderland, “Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end, then stop.” Eureka Springs is the end.

Sweet Potato Recipe – a Favorite at 5 Ojo Inn B&B

November 26th, 2009

For the last 6 years we have had a Potluck Thanksgiving dinner here at 5 Ojo Inn Bed and Breakfast for our quaint Eureka Springs, AR neighborhood and any guests here who want to come. As our part of the potluck, we provide the turkey and a sweet potato casserole. This sweet potato recipe has become my holiday comfort food. First you take healthy sweet potatoes, combine with butter and sugar and cover with a sauce made with butter and sugar. Now I have to admit all that butter and sugar kills the healthy part, but they’re just so good……

Here’s the recipe.

Sweet Potato Supreme

5-6 medium sweet potatoes
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup sugar
Salt to taste
milk as needed
—– Sauce —–
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans

  1. Peel, cube and cook sweet potatoes until tender.
  2. Mash sweet potatoes and combine butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and salt in a 8-10 cup baking dish.
  3. Stir, adding milk if necessary until desired consistency reached.
  4. Pour sauce (see below) over casserole and sprinkle pecans over top.
  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 400°F

—– Sauce —–

  1. Combine sauce ingredients (butter, sugar, and milk) in a saucepan.
  2. Cook until bubbly and thick.
  3. Let cool and stir in vanilla.
