The twelve days of Christmas are long over and that means Mardi Gras and carnival celebrations all over the world are in full swing!

If you don’t already know, Eureka Springs has it’s own Mardi Gras celebration. Going on seven years now, it is becoming a favorite event here in the city.

One of the fun things about Mardi Gras is that the celebrations and parties are spread out over a month or more. As we approach Fat Tuesday (February 12th this year), which is the culmination of carnival celebrations worldwide, here some of the crowning events:

Eureka Gras Parade (Saturday February 9th 2 – 3 p.m.) Krewe of Krazo leads the Eureka Gras Parade.

The theme for this year is “Apocalypse Wow”. Everyone is invited to dress in costume and join the parade. Trust us, this makes it all the more fun! The parade route starts at Spring Street and Basin Park – very near our B&B, then wraps around Courthouse, then down Main St., wraps around Grand Central and ends at New Delhi Cafe. Mardi Gras Jazz Brunch (Sunday, February 10th 11 a.m – 2 p.m.) Meet and greet the King and Queen of the Krazo Krewe during a New Orleans style jazz brunch. Enjoy live jazz music and delicious fare inside the Crescent Hotel dining room. Reservations are recommended. Call 479.253.9652.

Mardi Gras Arti Gras (Monday, February 11th 6 – 9 p.m.) The day after the brunch, enjoy a celebration of local art. The twist: All the pieces are “tastefully risque!”15 winning artists will display their works and former Mardi Gras royalty will host the event in full costume. A Silent auction of Mardi Gras Masques created by local artists will also be held. Taking place at the Basin Park Hotel in downtown Eureka Springs, this event is free to the public and includes a cash bar.

There are also balls, costume contests and more parades taking place during these last days before Fat Tuesday. Check out the whole set of events at the Eureka Gras website. We hope to see you for all the fun!
